Things about Katie

I don't want to ever forget all the quirky things that made Katie who she was, so I wrote them all down.

Katie...

had the softest, warmest head. It felt like dough and to me smelled like syrup.

would lift her nose to meet you every single time you rubbed her head. You could rub her head a thousand times and she'd lift her nose to meet you a thousand times.

had a crooked mouth.

had cute little swirl patterns on her chest with one little pointy tuft in the center from the the way her hair grew there.

would wake me (not very often, only when she really needed something) by touching her nose to mine.

looked at me like no other living thing ever has.

would wiggle her whole body, especially her butt, anytime she got excited…like when I would come home or when the cats would approach her.

always greeted me when I came home. She would jump with excitement.

always gave me sugars when I asked her for them and many times when I didn't.

loved to stick her nose in the bushes and tickle her nose and face with the leaves. She would ease her nose in and slowly let the leaves brush her face. She loved that a lot and we loved to watch her.

could run almost as fast as Buster.

always wanted all of us together. She was only truly relaxed and happy when we were all together in the same room.

would destroy a door with her claws if she accidentally got locked into a single room.

had a big wrinkle on the top of her head that went all the way across when she would lift her ears.

loved to eat. Her favorite thing in the world was eating.

sometimes ate things she wasn't supposed to, like the edges of her blankets/bedding, plastic bags, etc.

was a voracious chewer. She could completely consume a large rawhide in only a few minutes, so she stopped getting rawhides at an early age.

loved her biscuits, especially the large ones.

loved to snuffle the cats. She liked to smell them all over and bury her nose in their fur but she was always cautious of kitty claws.

loved to go for walks. She pulled a lot though and barked at every person she saw.

was not socialized properly (my fault) and barked at every stranger. She would raise her hackles and bark but never was aggressive. She was all bark and no bite at all.

was always a little scared of people when she first met them but always made friends fast.

loved to go into the front yard to do her business. She always seemed more comfortable in the front yard than the back.

was afraid to be left outside alone for very long, but loved to be outside as long as someone was with her.

would bark and growl in her sleep. Her barks sounds like they were coming from underwater. We called them blurps. She would make sounds like "blurp, blurp, blurp, then a little growl or two, and then more blurps". It was very entertaining and we always listened closely when she did it. It always made us laugh.

liked to sit too close when we ate and stare at our plates and then at us, then back to our plates.

loved to lick our plates and have a few items from our plates before we cleaned them.

loved the rice and eggs I would make her and Buster on special occasions like Christmas.

would make little clicking sounds with her nails when she walked around the house. I miss her clicks.

wagged her tail a lot.

had the softest, heaviest ears. They were thick and warm and she loved to have them rubbed.

loved her family.

had little pink naked knees. Her skin was pink with dark spots sprinkled all over.

her coat was white with black spots. She reminded me of a cow in a pasture with her big black spots on her side.

had pretty brown eyes that could easily melt my heart.

followed me around in the house. Wherever we were sitting is where Katie would lay.

had a loud bark. Her bark matched her size.

would peepee on command since she was a little puppy.

was mostly Lab (was always listed as lab/mix on her vet paperwork) and had webbed feet but I never took her swimming. I was going to take her this summer.

went bike riding with me once but she barked at me (fussed at me) the whole time for trying to run off and leave her. She was only happy if the pace was set by her.

loved to roll in the dirt and leaves. She would cover her entire coat in a layer of dirt and then want to come in the house all dirty. When she rolled she would kick her feet out and it always reminded me of the way the bulls try to kick the bull rider off. She looked like a bull when she did that.

she liked to nibble on her toys. She would nibble just like she was eating corn on the cob. Tiny little nibbles that made her nose bend. We called it her "opposable nose".

liked to get her way but also loved to please.

would wipe her feet on command when it rained outside. She would do a little circle on the towel or mat and get her wet feet all dry for me. She was such a good girl.
